MANILA, Philippines- Sa kabila ng pagtanggap ng pinakamalaking budget allocation mula sa pamahalaan, sinabi ni Vice President at Education Secretary Sara Duterte nitong Huwebes na hindi sapat ang halos P900 bilyong budget ng Department of Education (DepEd) para sa taong ito upang makamit ang “MATATAG Agenda”.
“In the 2023 General Appropriations Act, the education sector received the highest budget with PHP895.2 billion. Out of this, the Department of Education received PHP678.3 billion for basic education,” pahayag ni Duterte sa DepEd Partners Convergence sa National Museum of Natural History.
“However, these national budget allocations for basic education are not enough to cover all the requirements needed in achieving our MATATAG Agenda,” dagdag niya.
Nitong Enero, inilunsad ng DepEd ang MATATAG Agenda nito, na nagbibigay-diin sa two-track approach ng ahensya—pagkakasa ng traditional solutions na pagtanggap ng mas maraming mg guro at pagtatayo ng mas maraming mga silid-aralan kasama ang mas makabagong mga solusyon gaya ng paggamit ng modernong teknolohiya para ayusin ang basic education.
Kabilang sa agenda ang pagtatayo ng disaster-resilient schools, pagpapalakas ng literacy at numeracy programs, at pagbusisi sa Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education.
Nilalayon din nito na makapagbigay ng technical assistance upang mapagbuti ang procurement processes ng DepEd sa oamamagitan ng patuloy na capacity-building at digitalization.
