MANILA, Philippines – Nanindigan si Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. nitong Huwebes, Agosto 10, na walang ipinadadalang kadeteng Filipino sa Chinese military school.
“Since 2004, nagpapadala na tayo ng mga estudyante doon. We require them to submit a report and we have to assess if kailangan ituloy ang programa. So far, ang mga after-schooling report, they recommend na ipagpatuloy ang pagpapadala ng students doon,” sinabi ni Brawner.
“Indeed, we are learning from all of them… Let me just clarify: Wala tayong pinapadala na cadets sa China,” pagpapatuloy niya.
Ayon kay Brawner, sa Estados Unidos, Australia, Japan at South Korea lamang nagpapadala ang bansa ng mga kadete para sa military schools.
“We have about 45 Filipino cadets now studying abroad, pero wala sa China,” pagbabahagi pa niya.
“Malaki ang nakukuha nating value by sending officers and enlisted personnel to study. When they come back, they share best practices and we can see what we can apply here.”
Ayon naman kay AFP WESCOM chief Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos, ang naturang military training program ay nagbibigay ng pagkakataon sa mga sundalo na mas matuto pa ng sistema at pamamaraan ng ibang bansa.
Mismong si Carlos ay produkto ng American at Chinese military education.
Nagtapos siya sa United States Naval Academy noong 1989 at nakumpleto ang kanyang General Staff Course sa Naval Command College – People’s Liberation Army-Navy sa China noong 2008.
“Ako, personally, that is an opportunity to learn ano ang sa kabila. That is my distinct advantage now. I know both US and Chinese sides… I feel like it’s a good opportunity for us to learn about the other system—how they work, how they think,” sinabi ni Carlos.
“I don’t feel any utang na loob to China just because they sponsored my schooling there. Ang aming trabaho is the national interest of the government and the Philippines,” dagdag pa niya.
Nauna nang nagpaabot ng pagkabahala ang ilang senador sa isyung nagpapadala umano ang AFP ng mga sundalo sa China para mag-training sa kabila ng territorial dispute ng dalawang bansa sa West Philippine Sea. RNT/JGC
