MANILA, Philippines- Tiniyak ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa Filipino seafarers na patuloy na ide-develop ng kanyang administrasyon ang maritime industry sa bansa.
Inihayag ng Pangulo ang kanyang commitment habang ipinagdiriwang ng buong bansa ang 2024 Day of the Seafarer.
“Let me reiterate the full support of this administration as we strive to reach our goal of having a modern and future-ready maritime industry. To help us reach this objective, we recognize the role and efforts of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) by promoting a highly skilled and competitive maritime workforce as well as adopting an effective and efficient maritime administration governance system,” ayon sa Pangulo.
“I laud the MARINA for complying with international standards and keeping at par with other nations when it comes to this specialized industry. This year’s theme is a clarion call for us to share the best practices that help make the maritime sector a better, safer, and more fulfilling workforce for our seafarers,” dagdag na wika nito.
Pinuri rin ng Chief Executive ang “achievements and contributions” ng Filipino seafarers, kung saan ikinonsidera ng Pangulo bilang “best” sa buong mundo pagdating sa “driving the growth of both the international shipping industry and the global economy.”
“Therefore, with grateful hearts, we celebrate the many achievements and contributions of our Filipino merchant fleet as we celebrate the Day of the Seafarer for this year,” ayon sa Punong Ehekutibo.
Sa kabilang dako, sinabi naman ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) na ang Day of the Seafarer ay isang taunang selebrasyon na inorganisa ng International Maritime Organization (IMO) para kilalanin ang kontribusyon ng mga seafarers o mandaragat sa pangkalahatang publiko.
Itinatag ito sa pamamagitan ng isang resolusyon na ini-adopt ng 2010 Diplomatic Conference sa Manila na nagpairal ng revised o binagong Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention.
Layon ng resolusyon na kilalanin ang “unique contribution” na ginawa ng seafarers mula sa buong mundo sa international seaborne trade, world economy at civil society. Kris Jose
