MANILA, Philippines – Mahigit 110 estudyante ng Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF), mula sa Lucena City, Quezon province, ang naospital matapos umanong mabiktima ng hinihinalang food poisoning sa isang educational tour sa Kalanggaman Island, Palompon, Leyte, nitong Miyerkules, Oktubre 22.
Sa official statement ng MSEUF, ang mga apektadong estudyante at faculty members ay dinala sa Immaculate Conception Hospital sa Baybay City matapos makaranas ng sintomas ng food poisoning pagkabalik galing sa kanilang isla.
Nasa stable nang kondisyon ang lahat second-year Tourism and Hospitality Management students at faculty members at nagpapagaling na.
“Most students have fully recovered, while others are awaiting medical clearance,” dagdag pa sa abiso.
Iniulat na 177 estudyante at 10 faculty members ang lumahok sa naturang tour.
Ang mga estudyante ay hinainan ng mga pagkain mula sa food service provider na naka-base sa Palompon.
Nabahala naman ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Palompon sa insidente at sinabing naglunsad na sila ng joint inspection at imbestigasyon sa pamamagitan ng kanilang Municipal Health Office, Business Permits and Licensing Office, Municipal Council for Culture, Arts, and Tourism, at Municipal Environment and Eco-Tourism Office.
“A thorough investigation is still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident and to establish accountability,” saad sa pahayag ng LGU.
“We continue to monitor the situation and extend our full cooperation to all concerned agencies and parties. The safety, health, and welfare of all visitors to Kalanggaman Island remain our top priority.”
Itinanggi naman ng may-ari ng food service provider na si Warblitz Martinez, may-ari ng Blitz Grill ang kapabayaan at sinabing ang kanilang mga pagkain ay sumusunod sa food safety at sanitation standards.
Ani Martinez, lahat ng 187 na bisita nila ay binigyan nila ng tanghalian sa pagitan ng alas-11 ng umaga at ala-1 ng hapon at nakabalik sa baybayin ng alas-2 ng hapon nang walang sinumang nagrereklamo.
“The reported health concerns were raised almost 12 hours later, after the guests had already eaten dinner elsewhere,” sinabi pa ni Martinez.
“Based on medical facts, food poisoning symptoms normally appear within one to six hours if caused by contaminated food.”
Nag-ooperate na rin umano ng 22 taon ang Blitz Grill at may malinis na rekord kung kaya’t siniguro nitong sila ay makikipagtulungan sa mga awtoridad upang masiguro ang patas at malinis na imbestigasyon.
“We kindly ask the public not to jump to conclusions or spread unverified accusations while the investigation is ongoing.”
Nagpasalamat naman ang MSEUF sa Baybay City government, sa ospital at lokal na ahensya sa mabilis na pagtugon sa insidente maging sa Lucena City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office at City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit sa kahandaan na tumulong. RNT/JGC
