MANILA, Philippines – Mahigit 1,700 security personnel ang ipinakalat upang tiyakin ang seguridad sa ika-49 na pulong ng mga economic ministers ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) na gaganapin sa lungsod mula Pebrero 24 hanggang 27.
Sa send-off ceremony noong Pebrero 20 sa Camp Delgado, sinabi ni Police Regional Office-6 chief Josefino Ligan, “We trust in your abilities, we believe in your commitment, and we are truly proud of the dedication you consistently show in the performance of your responsibilities.”
Kabuuang 1,707 security personnel ang dineploy, kung saan 1,547 ay mga pulis mula sa Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), karamihan ay mula sa Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) na pinamumunuan ni Police Col. Wilbert Parilla.
May 160 naman na mula sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), at Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Ayon sa pamahalaang lungsod, nasa maayos na kamay ang mga delegado. Sinabi ni Iloilo City Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna, na kumatawan kay Mayor Raisa Treñas, “I know that Iloilo City is in capable hands. As your city government, we will remain fully committed to doing our part to ensure that this ASEAN-related event will be peaceful, orderly, and well managed.” RNT/MND
