MANILA, Philippines – Namataan ng Philippine Navy ang dalawang barkong pandigma ng People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) at isang barko ng China Coast Guard (CCG) malapit sa Bajo de Masinloc o Scarborough Shoal sa West Philippine Sea nitong Huwebes.
Nagsagawa ng maritime at sovereignty patrol ang BRP Miguel Malvar ng Philippine Navy, may 20 nautical miles sa timog ng Bajo de Masinloc. Nagpakilos din ito ng AW109 helicopter para sa maritime domain awareness flight.
Ayon kay Capt. Paul Michael Hechanova, commanding officer ng BRP Miguel Malvar, naging maayos ang patrol at walang naitalang agresibong kilos mula sa tatlong barkong Chinese.
“There were no untoward incidents or any aggressive acts coming from our three contacts of interest—the two PLA Navy warships and one China Coast Guard ship,” ani Hechanova.
Nakipagpalitan din ng radio challenge ang BRP Miguel Malvar sa barkong PLAN 554. Ipinaliwanag ng Philippine Navy na nagsasagawa ito ng regular na maritime patrol sa loob ng exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas.
“It’s a normal thing here in the West Philippine Sea. They challenge us, they assert what they want to and also we assert our sovereignty and claims here in the West Philippine Sea,” ani Hechanova.
“So, sinagot naman natin nang maayos—that we are conducting this routine maritime patrol in the exclusive economic zone ng ating teritoryo. Hindi sila sumagot sa ating response,” dagdag niya.
Ayon kay Hechanova, karaniwang nanatili sa ligtas na distansiya ang mga barkong Chinese, bagama’t lumapit nang hanggang 0.6 nautical mile ang PLAN 544 sa BRP Miguel Malvar. Wala naman umanong ipinakitang agresibong kilos ang mga ito sa buong patrol. RNT/MDS
