MANILA, Philippines- Binigyang-diin ni Senator Cynthia Villar nitong Miyerkules ang potensyal ng moringa, kilala bilang “malunggay,” sa pagpapasigla ng agricultural sector at pagpapahusay ng global standing ng Pilipinas sa health and wellness industry.
Inihayag ito ni Villar, pinuno ng Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform, sa public hearing sa panukalang Senate Bill Nos. 1255 at 2713, o ang Moringa Bill, inihain nila ni Senator Imee Marcos.
“Moringa has long been a part of our culinary and cultural heritage, particularly as a vital food source for rural communities. However, its potential extends far beyond our borders as a superfood with high demand in the global health industry,” bahagi ng opening statement ni Villar.
Nilalayon ng Moringa Bill na gawin ang Pilipinas na leading exporter ng moringa products kung saan binabalangkas ang istratehiya para sa industry development kabilang ang research and development upang paghusayin ang production quality; suportahan ang mga mekanismo para sa local farmers at entrepreneurs; sustainable agricultural practices; at focused export promotion strategy sa international market.
Inilatag din ni Villar ang socio-economic benefits ng panukala, tulad ng “job creation, increased rural incomes, and overall economic growth,” maging papel nito sa pagsusulong ng health and well-being.
