MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) nitong Sabado, Hulyo 12, na ang lahat ng mga opisyal mula sa procurement arm nitong Procurement Service (PS), na sangkot sa umano’y pagbili ng overpriced laptops ay wala na sa opisina.
Nag-isyu ang DBM ng pahayag matapos na atasan ng Office of the Ombudsman ang paghahain ng criminal charges laban kay dating Education Secretary Leonor Briones at 13 iba pa sa kaugnayan sa pagbili ng mga laptop na nagkakahalaga ng P2.4 billion para sa mga guro sa pampublikong paaralan sa kasagsagan ng COVID-19 pandemic.
Ang iba pang mga personalidad na idinawit sa overpriced laptop deal ay sina dating PS-DBM officials Lloyd Christopher Lao, Jasonmer Uayan, Ulysses Mora, Marwan Amil, at Paul Armand Estrada.
Nangako si DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman ng kanyang full cooperation sa Ombudsman, kasunod ng desisyon na maghain ng graft charges laban sa mga dating opisyal ng PS-DBM.
“We respectfully acknowledge the Ombudsman’s decision and are committed to supporting their legal proceedings. Transparency is our priority at the DBM. Therefore, should the Office of the Ombudsman require any assistance related to this matter, we will fully cooperate,” saad sa pahayag ni Pangandaman.
“Under its current leadership, the DBM is actively reforming and digitalizing the country’s procurement system to enhance accountability, transparency, and efficiency.”
Noong 2022, pinuna ng Commission on Audit ang pagbili ng Department of Education ng mahigit 39,000 laptop na nagkakahalaga ng P58,300 bawat isa sa pamamagitan ng PS-DBM.
Nakitaan ng Ombudsman ng probable cause para sampahan ng reklamo sina Briones at iba pang opisyal sa paglabag sa Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, falsification, at perjury, na may kaugnayan sa pagbili ng outdated at overpriced laptops noong 2021. RNT/JGC
