MANILA, Philippines – Nanindigan si Iloilo 1st District Representative Janette Garin, dating kalihim ng Department of Health (DOH), na ang pagtaas sa kaso ng leptospirosis sa ilang bahagi ng bansa ay walang kinalaman sa kontrobersyal na flood control projects.
“Leptospirosis is a different matter… So if you ask me, alam mo, pamumulitika ulit ‘yung nili-link sa flood control projects eh,” ani Garin.
Matatandaan na naunang sinabi ng DOH na maaari pang tumaas ang kaso ng leptospirosis sa mga susunod na araw.
Ayon sa Health Department, nasa kabuuang 1,272 kaso ng leptospirosis ang naitala sa buong bansa mula Hulyo 13 hanggang Agosto 6.
Ang ilan sa mga kaso ay nagdulot ng pagkasawi, kabilang ang 13 nasawi sa San Lazaro Hospital.
“If you ask me, it’s a failure ng communication, reaching the people, and it’s a failure of implementation because the budget is there, the medicines are there, napakamura ng doxycycline pero hindi nagamit nang maayos,” ani Garin.
“It’s very painful to see people dying, people critical in the hospitals, for an illness that should’ve been preventable,” dagdag pa niya. RNT/JGC
