MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Embahada ng Republika ng Korea sa Pilipinas noong Biyernes na walang kinalaman sa gobyerno ng Pilipinas ang kamakailang pagsususpinde ng feasibility study sa isang infrastructure project.
“The suspension of the feasibility study on the project in question is unrelated to the Philippine Government,” saad ng embahada.
“This decision was made solely to allow for the verification of matters that had been raised in Korean media reports. The project in question will be put on hold until further notice,” dagdag nito.
Bagama’t hindi nito tinukoy kung aling proyekto, matatandaang pinatigil ni South Korean President Lee Jae-myung ang 700-billion-won o humigit-kumulang P28-billion infrastructure loan project na ipatupad sa Pilipinas, dahil sa katiwalian.
Inanunsyo ni Lee sa isang Facebook posts, “I have ordered an immediate halt to the proceedings for the project.”
Nag-post din siya ng link sa isang ulat ng The Hankyoreh tungkol sa pagpapahinto ng mga paglilitis sa kahilingan ng Pilipinas noong 2023, sa pamamagitan ng Economic Development Cooperation Fund, para sa pautang para makapagtayo ng 350 tulay sa buong bansa.
Inihayag ng pinuno ng South Korea ang patuloy na pagsisiyasat sa mga maanomalyang proyekto sa pagkontrol ng baha sa bansa.
Ngunit sinabi ng Department of Finance na ang P28-bilyong Rural Modular Bridge Project ay kasalukuyang iminumungkahi para sa financing ng gobyerno ng France at hindi ng South Korea. Nabanggit nito na “there is no existing loan for the said project with South Korea.”
Sa bahagi nito, sinabi ng South Korean Embassy na ang Seoul ay nananatiling nakatuon sa pakikipagtulungan nito sa Maynila.
“Despite current circumstances, the Philippines remains one of Korea’s most valued partners, and Korea remains fully committed to advancing development cooperation partnerships between our two countries,” saad nito sa isang pahayag. RNT/MND
