MANILA, Philippines – Arestado ang isang babae sa Tondo, Maynila dahil sa pagbebenta umano ng mga relief goods mula sa Department of Social Welfare and Development, ayon sa Criminal Investigation and Detection Group noong Biyernes.
Sa isang pahayag, kinilala ng CIDG ang suspek na si “Janice.”
Nasa 6,000 kahon ng DSWD family kits na may tag na “Not for Sale” na nagkakahalaga ng P15,520,000 ang nasabat sa isang warehouse sa Barangay 56 sa operasyon.
Sinabi ni CIDG acting director Police Major General Robert Morico II na isinagawa ng pulisya ang operasyon mula alas-10 ng gabi noong Huwebes hanggang 4:30 ng umaga noong Biyernes matapos makatanggap ng ulat tungkol sa ilegal na aktibidad.
Ayon sa CIDG, ang pagbebenta ng relief goods ng DSWD ay isang paglabag sa Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010. Ipinagbabawal din ang ilegal na paggamit ng insignia sa ilalim ng Revised Penal Code.
“I commend the CIDG National Capital Region Regional Field Unit headed by PLTCOL John K Guiagui, Regional Chief and DSWD for the arrest of the suspect and the confiscation of the supposed relief goods. It underscores our commitment in upholding the law. Maraming salamat sa inyo,” ayon kay Morico.
Sa hiwalay na pahayag, sinabi ng DSWD na hindi konektado ang ahensya sa ni-raid na warehouse sa Maynila.
“The DSWD is in no way affiliated with the raided warehouse. No DSWD personnel is in any way involved in the reported illegal act,” ayon kay DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao.
Ikinalungkot ni Dumlao na sinira ng ilegal na aktibidad ang integridad at kredibilidad ng DSWD.
“As we face calamities one after another, it is possible that this is not an isolated business wanting to capitalize on the weaknesses of disaster affected families. Maligning the efforts of DSWD’s free public service delivery will also adversely impact on the poor and vulnerable sectors we serve, especially those suffering from calamities, like the survivors of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake,” dagdag niya.
