MANILA, Philippines – Ang Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) ay nakipagtulungan at gagamit ng kadalubhasaan ng isang US-based firm para palakasin ang smart grid modernization plan nito.
Sinabi ng kumpanya noong Miyerkules na nakipagtulungan ito sa Itron, Inc., isang kilalang namamahala ng mapagkukunan ng enerhiya at tubig kasama ang mga solusyon nito na umaabot sa mga utility sa higit sa 100 bansa.
Bilang pinakamalaking distributor ng kuryente sa bansa, ang Meralco, sa pamamagitan ng advanced na programa sa imprastraktura ng pagsukat nito, ay naglalayong mag-deploy ng “mas matalino, mas tumutugon, at nakasentro sa customer na sistema ng enerhiya.”
Ayon sa pinakamataas na opisyal nito, umaasa ang Meralco na samantalahin ang “Gen5 solution” ng Iltron, na nilalayong magbigay ng “near real-time, two-way communication” sa pagitan ng mga operasyon nito at mga end user.
“With Itron’s Gen5 solution, we are building a smart grid that not only supports the country’s push toward advancing the digital economy but also enhances Meralco’s customer-centricity through improved billing services, greater customer visibility into their energy use, and improved response times to outages,” ayon kay Meralco executive vice president and chief operating officer Ronnie Aperocho.
Kasama sa paunang coverage ang 73,000 endpoints sa buong Metro Manila.
Balak ng Meralco na palawakin ang rollout para masakop ang iba pang franchise areas nito, tulad ng Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, at mga piling lugar sa Pampanga, Laguna, Batangas at Quezon.
“Our proven, scalable Gen5 solution is upgrading the way Meralco delivers, measures and manages electricity. The solution is designed to support multiple meter brands, giving Meralco the flexibility to scale without vendor lock-in,” saad ni Itron senior vice president of Networked Solutions John Marcolini.
