MANILA, Philippines – Iginiit ng Cebu City developer na Monterazzas de Cebu na hindi totoo ang paratang na pinuputol nila ang higit 700 puno para sa kanilang proyekto.
Matatandaang binatikos ang Monterazzas matapos magdulot ng malawakang pagbaha si Bagyong Tino sa Cebu.
“The claim that Monterazzas de Cebu cut down more than 700 trees is grievously false, and we are confident that any evidence that may be presented to assert this narrative can easily be disproven,” ayon sa developer.
Anila, karamihan sa lugar ng proyekto ay natakpan ng damo, palumpong, at maliliit na halaman.
“The area could not support agricultural activity and was characterized mainly by non-woody vegetation,” dagdag pa nila.
Nauna na kasing sinabi ng DENR Region 7, 11 lamang sa 745 puno sa property ang naitala, na labag umano sa Forestry Code.
Itinanggi rin ng Monterazzas ang koneksyon ng kanilang proyekto sa pagbaha sa Cebu, dahil ang mga apektadong lugar ay ilang kilometro ang layo at nasa ibang drainage basins.
“To put this in context, it would be akin to suggesting that a development in Tagaytay City caused flooding in Makati City. The locations, watersheds, and flow paths simply do not intersect,” sabi ng kumpanya.
Binigyang-diin din ng developer ang pagsunod sa mga regulasyon sa kapaligiran at sinabi nilang lumabis pa sa hinihingi ng DENR sa flood mitigation.
“For instance, in flood mitigation, the DENR required total detention pond capacity of 26,701 cubic meters for the property. Monterazzas proactively installed a system with a capacity of 40,413 cubic meters, representing a 5,196 increase over the required standard,” ani Monterazzas. RNT
