MANILA, Philippines – Hinimok ni Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros nitong Sabado, Nobyembre 22 ang mga awtoridad na iuwi na si Cassandra Li Ong sa Pilipinas.
Si Ong na documented representative ng controversial Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) Lucky South 99, ay iniulat na huling namataan sa Japan.
“Hindi puwedeng walang pananagutan si Cassie Li Ong. Human trafficking ang kaso niya, hindi ito minor traffic violation na puwedeng palampasin,” ani Hontiveros.
“Maliban sa Interpol red notice, dapat na ring kanselahin ng gubyerno ang passport ni Cassie Ong at iba pa niyang kasabwat. Hindi siya turista,” dagdag ng senador.
Ang pahayag ng mambabatas ay inisyu matapos na sabihin ni Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) spokesperson Winston Casio revealed that Ong na huling na-track si Ong sa Japan kasunod ng pagpapakawala sa kanya sa detention sa Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) sa Mandaluyong City.
“Our law enforcers should also be actively coordinating with their international counterparts,” sinabi ni Hontiveros.
“Bring Cassie back to our country and make her face justice. Hindi siya dapat makalusot.”
Si Ong ay may active warrant of arrest na inisyu ng Pampanga Regional Trial Court (RTC) noong Mayo para sa qualified human trafficking na may kaugnayan sa umano’y scam hub operations ng Lucky South 99.
Sinabi ni Senador Sherwin Gatchalian sa Senate panel na si Ong ay pinakawalan mula sa detention mula sa CIW at ngayon ay “at large.”
Matatandaan na na-cite in contempt si Ong ng House Quad Committee na nag-iimbestiga sa POGO-linked crimes noong Setyembre 2024.
Isang linggo matapos nito ay inilipat si Ong sa CIW matapos aprubahan ng QuadCom ang mosyon para sa kanyang detention doon.
Ipinaliwanag ni Casio na si Ong ay nasa detention “on the basis of a contempt order by the Quadcom but when the lifespan of the 19th Congress has already ended, she can longer be detained because the authority of the Congress which cited her in contempt is already over.”
“So they are duty-bound to release her, otherwise, they could be charged with arbitrary detention or any other violation of Cassie Li Ong’s rights… Because there was no arrest warrant yet at that time, it was sometime in December, when she was released by Quadcom,” ayon pa sa PAOCC official.
Nag-isyu ng warrants of arrest noong Mayo ang Pampanga RTC-Branch 118 laban kay Ong at iba pa para sa qualified human trafficking sa mga umano’y illegal na aktibidad ng Lucky South 99.
Noong Hulyo, ibinasura ng Court of Appeals (CA) ang petisyon na inihain ni Ong laban sa resolusyon ng Department of Justice (DOJ) na nagdidiin sa kanya sa qualified human trafficking. RNT/JGC
