MANILA, Philippines – Sinita ng Office of the Ombudsman noong Huwebes ang mga tangkang ipagpaliban ni dating Ako-Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co ang kanyang paglilitis kaugnay ng umano’y P289 milyong substandard na flood control project sa Oriental Mindoro.
“The Office of the Ombudsman will not be distracted by dilatory tactics meant to derail the in-depth investigation into his illegal and corrupt acts,” ani Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano.
“We will stay focused,” dagdag niya.
Nagsampa si Co ng petisyon sa Korte Suprema upang ipatigil ang paglilitis ng Ombudsman dahil sa umano’y kakulangan ng batayan.
Hiningi rin niya ang temporary restraining order laban sa resolusyon ng Nobyembre 14, 2025 na nagrekomenda ng kaso laban sa kanya at nais niyang pawalang-bisa ito, dahilan ang diumano’y pagmamadali ni Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla.
“… this Honorable Court issue an ex-parte temporary restraining order and/or writ of preliminary injunction restraining and/or enjoining respondent Jesus Crispin C. Remulla, in his capacity as the Ombudsman … from implementing the resolution dated 14 November 2025… Including but not limited to desisting from prosecuting criminal cases nos. SB-25-CRM-0039, 0040, and 0041, Sandiganbayan, 5th, 6th, and 7th Divisions,” nakasaad sa petisyon.
Iginiit ni Co na hindi siya maayos na naabisuhan tungkol sa mga kaso at pinigilan ang kanyang mga abogado sa pag-access ng mga dokumento.
“He was never properly served with any order to file counter-affidavit … In disregard of Co’s constitutional right to due process and established rules of procedure, the Ombudsman declined resort to other available modes of service and merely proceeded to indict Co,” ayon sa petisyon.
Sinabi ni Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla noong Huwebes na siya ay “nabigla” sa ulat na personal na nagpakita si Co sa Sweden, matapos niyang ipalagay na ang dating kongresista ay nasa loob ng gated community sa Lisbon, Portugal. Santi Celario
