MANILA, Philippines – Ilalagak sa plenaryo ng Kamara sa Lunes ang mga labi ni dating House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. ng alas 10:00 ng umaga.
Ito ay bilang pagkilala matapos na aprubahan ng mga kongresista ang House Resolution (HR) No. 758 sa naiambag ng namayapang kongresista sa larangan ng lehislatura at kapayapaan ng bansa.
Ang memorial service sa Lunes na pangungunahan ni House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy ay bilang pagkilala kay De Venecia na namatay noong February 10, 2026 sa edad na 89.
Naiwan ni De Venecia ang kanyang asawa na si Pangasinan Rep. de Venecia, at mga anak na sina Christopher P. de Venecia na naging kongresista ng ika-apat na Pangasinan Joey de Venecia; Vivian de Venecia-Garcia; Leslie de Venecia-Norton; at Alexandra de Venecia-Hanner at mga apo.
Ang resolusyon ay inihain at inakda nina Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III ng Isabela, House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” A. Marcos ng Ilocos Norte, at House Minority Leader Marcelino “Nonoy” C. Libanan ng 4PS Party-list.
Nakapaloob sa resolusyon ang “profound condolences of the House of Representatives to the family of the Honorable Jose C. de Venecia Jr., former Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Ninth, Tenth, Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth Congresses and spouse of the Honorable Ma. Georgina P. de Venecia, Representative of the Fourth Legislative District of Pangasinan.”
Si De Venecia ang tanging naging Speaker na tumagal ng limang termino noong — Ninth, Tenth, Twelfth, Thirteenth at Fourteenth Congresses — at bilang kinatawan naman ng Pangasinan sa loob ng anim na termino at dalawang termino nang maging kinatawan din ito ng ikalawang Distrito ng Pangasinan noong Seventh Congress.
Binanggit pa sa resolusyon na si De Venecia ay “architect of political unity,” recalling how he unified seven diverse political parties into the historic “Rainbow Coalition,” through which he supported then President Fidel V. Ramos in restoring political stability and ensuring the enactment of more than 200 economic and social reform laws.” (Meliza Maluntag)
