MANILA, Philippines – Kinumpirma ng Petron Corp. nitong Lunes, Marso 30 ang pagbili nito ng 2.48 milyong bariles ng crude oil mula sa Russia para dagdagan ang imbentaryo nito hanggang Hunyo.
Ayon sa kompanya, mahigpit silang nakikipag-ugnayan sa Departments of Energy (DOE) at Department of Finance (DOF) sa pagbili matapos na nanawagan ang dalawang ahensya sa mga lokal na kompanya na kumuha ng alternatibong source ng crude at finished products.
“The corporation wishes to emphasize that the procurement of Russian crude oil is not part of its business-as-usual sourcing strategy,” sinabi ng Petron sa regulatory filing.
“The purchases were undertaken strictly out of extreme necessity, as an extraordinary emergency measure in response to unprecedented geopolitical and supply chain disruptions, and only after exhausting all commercially and operationally viable alternatives,” dagdag pa.
Sinabi ng Petron na nakatanggap din ito ng kumpirmasyon mula sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas na walang pagbabawal sa batas ng Pilipinas na kumuha ng foreign currency para sa pag-import at trade transactions, na nagbibigay-daan para sa importasyon ng Russian crude oil.
Dagdag pa, kung magpapatuloy ang kasalukuyang krisis at mananatiling unavailable o insufficient ang alternatibong crude sources ay maaaring ikonsidera ulit ng Petron ang pagbili ng Russian crude oil para sumuporta sa national fuel supply.
“Any initiative taken by the corporation shall be made in close coordination with the Philippine government and guided by the overriding objective of ensuring energy security for the country.”
Noong Lunes ay dumating ang Sierra Leone-flagged Sara Sky, taglay ang mahigit 700,000 bariles ng high-quality crude mula sa ESPO pipeline ng Russia kasama ang dokumento na nagpapakita ng Petron Corp. bilang consignee. RNT/JGC
