MANILA, Philippines – Inanunsyo ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) nitong Miyerkules, Abril 1 ang pagkakaaresto sa isang Chinese national dahil sa pagbebenta ng mga SIM card sa Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) at mga sindikato na sangkot sa scamming activities.
Ayon sa NBI, ang indibidwal ay naaresto nitong Martes sa Tondo, Manila kasunod ng ulat na ginagamit nito ang Telegram para magbenta ng pre-registered SIM cards.
“Investigation revealed that the SIM cards were being sold to clandestine POGOs, individuals, and syndicates engaged in various online scamming activities,” saad sa pahayag ng NBI.
Sinubukan umano ng ahente ang SIM card na ibinigay ng suspek sa entrapment operation at napag-alaman na nakarehistro na ang numero.
Inaresto ng mga awtoridad ang naturang indibidwal matapos na tanggapin ang marked money.
Nasamsam ng mga operatiba ang nasa 49 piraso ng Smart SIM cards at isang cellphone.
Ipinresenta ang suspek sa Manila City Prosecutor’s Office at mahaharap sa reklamong paglabag sa SIM Card Registration Act, na may kaugnayan sa Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
“The NBI remains steadfast in its commitment to dismantling networks that facilitate cybercrime,” ayon sa NBI.
“By enforcing the SIM Card Registration Act, the Bureau aims to strip online scammers and illegal offshore operators of the anonymity they require to exploit the public,” dagdag pa. RNT/JGC
