MANILA, Philippines – NAGPAHAYAG ng kumpiyansa si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. kaugnay sa adoption ng declaration on maritime cooperation sa mga miyembro ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders.
Inihayag ito ni Pangulong Marcos sa isinasagawang 48th ASEAN Summit Plenary, kung saan inaasahan na ang ‘most pressing priorities’ ng rehiyon ay tatalakayin ng ASEAN leaders, lumipad patungong Cebu para sa summit.
“We recognize the importance of maritime cooperation and look forward to the adoption of the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Maritime Cooperation,” ang winika ni Pangulong Marcos.
“[This] includes the Philippines’ proposal to establish an ASEAN Maritime Center, which will serve as an important platform for maritime cooperation in coordination with relevant ASEAN and ASEAN-led mechanisms,” aniya pa rin.
Nauna rito, binigyang diin ni Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro ang kahalagahan ng ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Maritime Cooperation, kinikilala ang multidimensional nature ng maritime issues at binigyang diin ang kahalagahan ng koordinasyon sa hanay ng ASEAN member-states.
Tinuran ni Lazaro na ang mahalagang aspeto ng kooperasyon ay ang panukalang pagkakatatag ng ASEAN Maritime Center sa Pilipinas.
