MANILA, Philippines – Nagpahayag ng suporta ang mga lider ng Southeast Asia sa patuloy na usapan sa pagitan ng Cambodia at Thailand at ang full implementation ng kasalukuyang mga kasunduan kabilang ang 2025 ceasefire pact, na nakatutulong sa paghupa ng tensyon sa border.
Sa pahayag ng chair ng ASEAN na inilabas nitong Sabado, Mayo 9, kasunod ng 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings sa Cebu, hinimok ng regional bloc ang two member-states na resolbahin ang mga gusot sa mapayapang paraan na naaayon sa international law.
“We reaffirmed our shared commitment to respect international law, the Charters of the United Nations and ASEAN, the renunciation of the threat or use of force, and respect for the international boundary, thereby contributing to peace and stability between the two countries and in the wider region,” saad sa pahayag.
“We urged both sides to resolve disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law and existing treaties and agreements,” dagdag pa.
Iginiit ng ASEAN ang kahalagahan ng ASEAN Observer Team sa pag-obserba, pag-beripika at pag-uulat ng implementasyon ng ceasefire deal sa paglihak ng conducive environment sa mga negosasyon.
Nagpahayag din ito ng kahandaan na magpaabot ng humanitarian assistance sa mga apektadong komunidad.
“We stand ready to support ongoing efforts, including through the good offices of the ASEAN Chair, as well as efforts by other ASEAN Member States and external partners, to facilitate the effective implementation of the agreed measures and to promote an environment conducive to durable peace and stability between Cambodia and Thailand.”
Pinangunahan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang trilateral meeting kasama sina Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnivakul sa pagsusulong ng dialogue sa pagpapahupa ng tensyon at stability sa rehiyon. RNT/JGC
