PH manufacturing activity lumago noong Mayo

MANILA, Philippines – Lumago ang manufacturing activity sa Pilipinas noong Mayo kasabay ng mataas na domestic demand para tugunan ang supply chain disruptions dahil sa tensyon sa Middle East.

Nitong Lunes, Hunyo 1, sinabi ng S&P Global na ang Philippines Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) ay lumago sa 50.8 noong Mayo mula sa 48.3 noong Abril.

Ang pinakahuling datos ay nangangahulugan na ang local factory activity ay muling pumasok sa expansion territory again, o mas mataas sa 50-mark.

“The overall expansion was driven by a fresh rise in new orders, which followed a sharp reduction in April. Improved client demand and new customer wins were said to have driven growth,” saad sa report ng S&P.

Sa kabila nito ay nagbabala ang S&P na ang paglagong ito ay nananatiling ‘fragile’ dahil sa apektadong supply chain at tumataas na inflation na magpapahirap sa mga manufacturer.

”Supply chains remained taut, and inventories were once again curtailed. Adding to worries was an accelerated and steep rise in operating expenses. In turn, selling prices were raised sharply but at a less marked pace,” dagdag pa. RNT/JGC
