MANILA, Philippines – INAPRUBAHAN ng Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), isang American international development agency, ang bagong grant para makatulong na gawing modernisado ang energy sector governance ng Pilipinas.
Inanunsyon ng US Embassy sa Maynila na inaprubahan ng MCC ang Philippine Threshold Program, makatutulong sa mga candidate countries na maging eligible para sa MCC assistance.
Sinabi nito na ang grant ay makatutulong sa Philippine energy sector sa pamamagitan ng “building on whole-of-government efforts and closing critical gaps in the sector.”
Sinabi ng MCC na ang grant, inaprubahan sa miting noong nakaraang Hunyo June 24, ay makatutugon din sa ‘high cost at unreliability of power’ sa Pilipinas, enable energy sector investment, strengthen institutions, at “expand opportunities for American commercial engagement.”
“The approval of the Philippines Threshold Program reflects the strength of the US–Philippines partnership and our shared commitment to expanded economic opportunity and mutual prosperity,” ayon kay Christopher Landau, Deputy Secretary of State, na namumuno rin bilang MCC Board of Directors.
“By strengthening energy security, this program will help unlock US private‑sector investment and support lasting, broad‑based growth across the Philippines,” ani Landau.
Ang MCC ay namuhunan ng mahigit sa USD 17 billion sa 76 programs sa ‘imprastraktura, policy reform, at institutional strengthening’ sa mga partner countries sa nakalipas na dalawang dekada.
Pinagsama-sama ang mga private‑sector opportunities sa mga programa nito, tiniyak na ang mga benepisyo sa Estados Unidos ay makakamit kasama ng development impact. KRIS JOSE
