MANILA, Philippines – Naipaalis na ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang 10 overstaying refrigerated containers na naglalaman ng nabubulok at mabahong mga karga mula sa Port of Subic.
Ayon kay Subic District Collector Geniefelle Lagmay, pito sa mga container ang naitapon na habang tatlo ang sumasailalim sa condemnation proceedings.
“One of my priorities is to consistently comply with the marching orders of Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, which is to decongest the Port of Subic and immediately dispose of the overstaying containers that have been causing foul odors and posing environmental and public health concerns,” ani Lagmay.
Nasa kabuuang 118 refrigerated containers ang kasalukuyang nasa pantalan na sobra na sa pinapayagang storage period.
Hanggang noong Hunyo 26, 108 container ang nananatili sa container yard, bagamat may anim na naiproseso na para sa pullout at disposal.
Ayon sa BOC, ipatatapon nila ang lima hanggang 10 container linggo-linggo para mapabilis ang clearing ng mga overstaying na cargo.
“The condemnation and disposal activities have already helped mitigate the environmental impact of the overstaying cargo,” sinabi ni Lagmay.
Matagal nang inirereklamo ng mga terminal operator at kalapit na negosyo ang masangsang na amoy mula sa mga nabubulok na cargo. RNT/JGC
