MANILA, Philippines – Inatasan ng Energy Regulatory Commission ang Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) na magsagawa ng P9.5 bilyong refund sa mga consumer nito.
Sa desisyon na may petsang Hulyo 31, inatasan ng ERC ang pinakamalaking power distributor sa bansa na i-refund ang katumbas ng P0.3449 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) sa loob ng anim na buwan bilang hiwalay na line item sa bill sa kuryente.
Ayon kay ERC chair at CEO Francis Saturnino Juan, ang implementasyon ay magsisimula sa susunod na billing cycle pagkatanggap ng ruling.
Sa ilalim ng rate reset process, ang regulated entity katulad ng Meralco ay dapat na magpasa sa ERC ng spending at proposed projects nito na karaniwan ay limang taon.
Ito ang gagamiting basehan ng rate na ipapasa sa mga consumer.
Ang multi-bilyong pisong refund ay nagrerepresenta sa price correction para sa lapsed period mula Enero hanggang Disyembre 2025.
Tumutukoy ang lapsed period sa haba mula sa previous rate update na nakaapekto sa pricing at revenue ng regulated entities.
Sa panahong ito, ang mga consumer ay sinisingil gamit ang outdated rates na maaaring hindi na sumasalamin sa tunay na halaga ng serbisyo ng kompanya.
“Considering that Meralco collected the over-recovery during the regulatory years covered by the lapsed period, the Commission finds it prudent to include the interest cost in the computation of the total refund of Meralco relative to the instant case,” ayon sa ERC. RNT/JGC
