MANILA, Philippines – Kinuwestiyon ni ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio ang Pax Silica Economic Security Zone, at sinabi niyang maaaring ito ay isang “Trojan horse” para sa paggamit ng small modular reactors (SMRs) sa Pilipinas.
Lumabas ang isyu matapos ang mga ulat na pinag-aaralan ng administrasyong Marcos ang paggamit ng SMRs upang matugunan ang 5-gigawatt na pangangailangan sa kuryente ng planong Pax Silica sa Clark.
Ayon kay Tinio, ang mga SMR ay “untested and dangerous” at maaaring magdulot ng panganib tulad ng radioactive waste, aksidente, seguridad, at nuclear proliferation.
“We see a dangerous convergence here. First, the government commits to a US-led project that will consume a huge chunk of our national power supply for the benefit of foreign corporations. Then, it uses the resulting artificial energy crisis to justify importing risky, experimental nuclear technology from the same foreign power,” sabi ni Tinio.
Iginiit din niya na ang Pax Silica ay “is a problem of its own making” at “an unnecessary project that will hog electricity needed by our people and industries.”
Ayon pa sa kanya, ang paglalaan ng 5 gigawatts para sa proyekto ay maaaring magpalala ng kakulangan sa kuryente at magtaas ng presyo ng kuryente para sa mga Pilipino.
“The solution is not to compound one disastrous policy with another. The solution is to scrap Pax Silica, which is a brazen resource grab, and to prioritize genuine national development and energy security for the Filipino people,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi rin ni Tinio na ang paggamit ng modular nuclear power sa ilalim ng US-Philippines “123 Agreement” ay maaaring magpalalim ng pagdepende ng Pilipinas sa teknolohiya, fuel, at kapital ng Estados Unidos.
Nanawagan siya sa publiko na tutulan ang Pax Silica at ang pagpasok ng modular nuclear power sa bansa. RNT/MDS
