Manila, Philippines – Isang legal explanation ang pinakawalan ni Atty. Joji Alonzo patungkol sa hirit ni Barbie Forteza na gusto niyang ikasal sa Las Vegas dahil may divorce doon.
Ayon sa abogado’t film producer, under Philippine laws ay hindi applicable ang divorce sa dalawang Pinoy kahit saan man sila magpakasal on the basis of “nationality principle.”
Sey ni Alonzo: “Even in Las Vegas, if you marry a fellow Filipino citizen who remains such all throughout your marriage, any divorce you obtain won’t be recognized under Philippine law.
“Your marriage continues due to what is known as the ‘nationality principle!’
“Your nationality follows you wherever you are. And since divorce is not recognized under Philippine law, you remain married to him.”
It’s a different case daw kung sa banyaga ka ikinasal.
Dagdag ni Alonzo: “If you married a foreign national and your husband divorced you, that may be recognized under Philippine law.
“It would be sheer absurdity for you to continue being married to a foreigner who is no longer married to you.”
