Namataang Chinese vessel sa Bajo de Masinloc, walang nakumpirmang drilling – AFP

MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) nitong Martes na walang nakumpirmang seabed drilling na isinagawa ng Chinese drilling-capable research vessel na Haiyang Dizhi Shihao habang nananatili ito sa paligid ng Bajo de Masinloc o Scarborough Shoal sa loob ng 28 araw.

Ayon kay retired Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, tagapagsalita ng AFP para sa West Philippine Sea, ipinakita ng track ng barko na patuloy itong gumagalaw sa lugar at hindi nanatiling stationary, na kinakailangan sana kung magsasagawa ito ng drilling operations.

“To be able to conduct drilling activities, it would have to be stationary. The ship would have to be stationary and not moving,” ani Trinidad.

Sinabi niyang ang galaw ng barko ay mas naaayon sa research o surveillance activities.

“The presence and the track would indicate that they were conducting surveillance or research activities. As to any report of drilling activities, there was none that was confirmed, nor were there any reports given by our monitoring capabilities,” dagdag niya.

Patuloy namang bineberipika ng AFP ang mga ulat tungkol sa aktibidad ng barko, katuwang ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

Pumasok ang 76-meter na Haiyang Dizhi Shihao sa exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas noong Agosto 10 at dumating sa paligid ng Bajo de Masinloc kinabukasan.

Nanatili ito sa lugar nang 28 araw bago umalis sa paligid ng shoal noong Setyembre 8 at tuluyang lumabas sa Philippine EEZ noong Setyembre 9.

Ayon sa AFP, dati nang namonitor ang naturang barko sa hilagang bahagi ng karagatan ng Pilipinas at malapit sa Philippine (Benham) Rise noong 2024. Gayunman, ito ang unang dokumentadong presensya nito sa paligid ng Bajo de Masinloc. RNT/MDS
