WHEN the well-being and interest of the people is at stake, political affiliation is quickly set aside. This is precisely what we see with Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo ‘Along’ and District 2 Congressman Edgar ‘Egay’ Erice, who readily find common ground when the discussion concerns programs for their constituents.
Just recently, the two joined forces, along with other concerned government agencies, as they explored maximizing open spaces — such as the area beneath the Skyway within the city’s jurisdiction — by converting them into a public park and parking area.
Well, that’s a worthwhile initiative.
When this kind of perspective and principle guides those in government, the true winner is undoubtedly the Filipino people, the ‘Batang Kankaloo’ in particular.
Calm Space in Caloocan
It’s heartening to see a local government like Caloocan bring to fruition programs that genuinely and directly benefit residents — such as the facility known as Calm Space.
This facility – a mental wellness lounge – is now providing free mental health screening and consultation to its constituents. It’s conceived as a sanctuary where individuals can relax, clear their minds, share their thoughts, and seek guidance from mental health professionals.
In addition to these core services, the city’s Calm Space offers free yoga, tai-chi, and sound healing sessions.
Mayor Along encouraged the residents to make full use of the facility’s free services, designed to respond to the diverse needs of citizens, including the modern-day pressures that affect mental health and well-being.
“I’m inviting everyone to join the free activities and avail of the services at our newly opened facility.”
“Our Calm Space has specialists who are ready to listen and provide guidance, especially to those enduring emotional and psychological distress,” he added.
The son of former long-time city mayor and now District 1 Rep. Oscar Malapitan stressed the facility services would be a timely response to the pressing issues emerging in various parts of the Philippines that affect different sectors, particularly the youth.
It’s located on the 5th floor of the City Hall-South and is open from Monday to Friday, 8a.m. to 5p.m. Everyone is welcome. Go, go, go!
