AFP chief nagbabala vs ‘disinformation’

MANILA, Philippines- Nagbabala si Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Romeo Brawner nitong Biyernes sa mga Pilipino ukol sa “alarming surge” ng disinformation campaigns laban sa militar at pamahalaan na naglalayong sirain ang “public’s trust in our institution.”

“These efforts seek to sow panic, divide our nation and distract us from pressing issues that demand our collective attention,” pahayag ni Brawner, na hindi idinetalye ang mga partikular na insidente.

Sinabi niya sa publiko na manatiling alerto at kritikal sa natatanggap at ibinabahaging impormasyon.

“Disinformation not only distorts the truth but also undermines our unity, making us vulnerable to external challenges that threaten our national security and stability,” giit ng opisyal.

“Let us stand together in the face of these desperate attempts to spread discord,” dagdag niya.

“We call on every Filipino to join us in this endeavor, fostering a spirit of solidarity and resilience against those who wish to weaken our resolve.”

Nitong linggo, pinayuhan ng militar ang publiko sa “importance of verifying information and providing proper context before sharing it” matapos kumalat online ang larawan ng isang Philippine Navy helicopter na nagbabagsak ng mga suplay sa BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal.

Nilinaw ni Col. Xerxes Trinidad, pinuno ng AFP public affairs office, ang larawan ay mula pa sa Dec. 26, 2021, Christmas mission sa West Philippine Sea at “not related to any current events.” RNT/SA
