MANILA, Philippines – Iniulat ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) na nagpakawala ng 6,367 tonnes ng volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) ang Bulkang Kanlaon.
Ito na ang ikatlong pinakamataas na naitala ngayong taon.
Naitala ang SO2 fumes sa ilang barangay sa Murcia, Negros Occidental.
Dagdag pa, nakapagtala rin ang Bulkang Kanlaon ng 700-meter steam-rich plumes na dulot ng malakas na degassing activity mula sa summit crater.
“Kanlaon has been degassing increased concentrations of volcanic SO2 this year at an average rate of 1,273 tonnes/day prior to the 3 June 2024 eruption, but emission since then has been particularly elevated at a current average of 3,295 tonnes/day,” saad sa abiso ng PHIVOLCS.
Nakapagtala rin ang PHIVOLCS ng average na nine volcanic earthquakes kada araw.
“The current monitoring parameters warn of shallow magmatic processes beneath the volcano that are actively driving unrest, causing persistent and increasing concentrations of volcanic gas emissions, persistent volcanic earthquake activity and swelling of the edifice,” dagdag pa.
Nananatili sa Alert Level 2 ang babala sa bulkan na nangangahulugang may mataas na tsansa ng explosive eruptions o hazardous magmatic eruptions mula sa summit crater. RNT/JGC
