MANILA, Philippines – Kinondena ni Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. nitong Sabado, Agosto 15 ang pinakahuling pahayag ng Foreign Ministry ng China laban sa pagtawag dito bilang “squid tactic.”
Matatandaan na noong Huwebes ay kinondena ni Teodoro ang aksyon ng China laban sa mahigit 100 Filipino na hinihinalang iligal na nagtatrabaho o naninirahan sa China at inilarawan ito bilang “plain and simple extortion and blackmail.”
Bilang tugon, sinabi ni Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun na, “Foreign nationals in China should abide by Chinese laws and regulations. China’s immigration authorities perform their duty in accordance with the law and protect the lawful rights and interests of the personnel concerned. The actions do not target any specific country.”
“It’s learned that it was exactly this defense secretary who personally led the armed forces to seize and detain Chinese nationals lawfully working in the Philippines. This person’s consistent attacks and smears against China harm not only bilateral relations. It is the interests of the Philippines and all its people that will bear the brunt,” dagdag ni Guo.
Sa pahayag nitong Sabado, nanindigan si Teodoro na ang mga aktibidad ng Chinese nationals na naaresto sa steel plant sa Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, noong Mayo ay iligal.
Aniya, kabilang sa mga aktibidad na ito ay angregurgitation ng substandard, radioactively contaminated steel; pagtatapon ng untreated, polluted water sa mga ilog, at paglalabas ng untreated toxic fumes.
Idinagdag pa niya na ang mga alegasyon ay suportado ng “indisputable and legally admissible evidence” na nakalap ng mga awtoridad sa pamamagitan ng valid search warrants na inisyu ng mga korte sa Pilipinas.
“The latest Chinese Foreign Ministry statement against me is a classic squid tactic—disinformation through avoidance,” sinabi ni Teodoro.
“The Filipino people will not fall for this. Threatening that they will ‘bear the brunt’ is an indiscriminate threat to retaliate against all Filipinos, which is, plain and simple, extortion and blackmail beyond doubt!” dagdag pa.
Iginiit pa ni Teodoro na ang mga opisyal ng Chinese Embassy ay aktibong nakikialam sa proseso ng local law enforcement at nagbanta na gagantihan ang mga Filipino.
Matatandaan na 21 indibidwal, kabilang ang 10 Chinese national ang inaresto sa pabrika sa Davao City matapos madiskubre ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) na ang pasilidad ay nagbebenta at nagdidistribute umano ng substandard at radioactive steel.
Kasunod ng pag-aresto sa Chinese workers, sinabihan naman ng mga representative ng Chinese Embassy sa Manila ang Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission na aarestuhin ang mga Filipino sa China kung ang mga naarestong manggagawang Chinese sa steel plant ay hindi pakakawalan.
