MANILA, Philippines – Iniuugnay ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) sa isang Chinese Drug Triad ang nasa likod ng ibinagsak na tone-toneladang shabu na natagpuan ng mga mangingisda sa dagat ng Pangasinan at Ilocos Sur.
Ayon kay PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez, ang packaging ng shabu packs na nakalagay sa mga teabag ay may Chinese markings na signature trademark ng isang triad.
“The triad gains notoriety by engaging all sorts of methods of drug smuggling, including the use of the high seas. They dump their illicit goods to be retrieved by local cohorts later. It’s a good thing that our hero fishermen got there first before the drugs fell into the wrong hands,” saad sa pahayag ni Nerez.
Hanggang noong Hunyo 8, nakarekober ang PDEA, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Navy (PN), at National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ng 1,013 kilo ng shabu na nagkakahalaga ng P6.89 bilyon.
Nadiskubre ng mga mangingisda ang floating shabu mula noong Hunyo 5 sa coastal areas ng Dacap Sur, Bani; Boboy at Macaboboni, Agno; at Luciente I, Balingasay, Concordia at Poblacion, Bolinao, lahat ay matatagpuan sa Pangasinan.
Mayroon ding nakita sa Barangays Mantanaz at Dili sa Sta Cruz, Ilocos Sur.
Sa kasalukuyan ay may naitalang kabuuang 39 turnover incidents ang isinagawa ng mga mangingisda at residente sa mga natatagpuang floating shabu.
“The sheer volume of surrendered illegal drugs is a resounding testament to the vigilance and integrity of our coastal communities,” ani Nerez.
