MANILA, Philippines – Naghain si Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa ng Senate Bill 1343 para ibalik ang death penalty laban sa plunder, matapos ang malawakang katiwalian sa flood control projects na umano’y nagdulot ng hanggang ₱118.5 bilyong pinsala sa ekonomiya at nagkait ng trabaho sa 266,000 Pilipino.
“In the face of actual and lived experience, plunder entails the enriching of oneself at the expense of the suffering of others. … When our people lose their chance at good lives because of the greed of the few, the greedy few, simply, must pay with their lives,” pahayag ni Dela Rosa sa kanyang explanatory note.
Tantiya ng Department of Finance, ang katiwalian sa flood control projects noong 2023 hanggang 2025 ay nagdulot ng pagkawala ng ₱42.3 bilyon hanggang ₱118.5 bilyon. Ibinunyag din ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na 15 contractors ang nakakuha ng halos 20% ng ₱545 bilyong pondo para sa flood control projects mula Hulyo 2022.
“Yesterday, I filed SBN 1343, an act reimposing death penalty for the crime of PLUNDER. Tingnan natin sino ang haharang nito. I move for the swift passage of this law. Taongbayan, pls second my motion!!!,” ani Dela Rosa sa kanyang Facebook post.
Nakasaad sa panukala na ang parusang kamatayan ay isasagawa sa pamamagitan ng lethal injection alinsunod sa Republic Act 8177. RNT
