MANILA, Philippines — Pinaiigting ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang kampanya laban sa iligal na pagtaas ng pamasahe kasabay ng pagtaas ng presyo ng gasolina.
Ayon kay PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., katuwang na ngayon ng pulisya ang Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) sa pagbabantay sa mga pampublikong sasakyan na umano’y nagpapataw ng unauthorized fare hikes.
“Our mandate extends to looking after the welfare of the riding public. We will ensure that rules and regulations are strictly followed as part of the PNP’s commitment to protect the commuters during these challenging times,” ani Nartatez.
Nanawagan din siya sa publiko na i-report ang mga lumalabag.
“We urge all our kababayan (compatriots) to report any incident of unauthorized fare increase. This must not be tolerated, otherwise, this will encourage others to do the same,” dagdag niya.
Nauna nang nagbabala ang Department of Transportation (DOTr) na maaaring maharap sa show-cause order at posibleng suspensyon ng lisensya ang mga lalabag, alinsunod sa direktiba ni Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na ipagpaliban ang pagtaas ng pamasahe.
Nag-deploy na rin ang PNP ng mga tauhan sa mga terminal at transport hubs, pinalakas ang complaint channels, at pinaigting ang koordinasyon sa mga ahensya sa pamamagitan ng joint inspections at checkpoint operations.
Patuloy ring nagbibigay ng subsidiya ang pamahalaan sa mga transport worker upang maibsan ang epekto ng pagtaas ng presyo ng langis.
Samantala, binanggit ni Nartatez ang isang “gas-and-run” incident sa Quezon City kung saan sumuko ang isang driver na umano’y tumakas matapos hindi magbayad ng ₱5,196 na halaga ng fuel.
“We commend the swift action of our police teams in Quezon City. This is a manifestation of your PNP’s commitment to serve and protect the people from those who brazenly violate the law,” aniya.
“Let us not take advantage of this challenge to disregard the law. We urge everyone to let discipline and respect prevail. Otherwise, we will make sure that you would be held accountable,” dagdag pa niya.
Sinabi ng PNP na paiigtingin pa ang police visibility sa mga establisimyento tulad ng mga gasolinahan at patuloy na babantayan ang mga insidente kaugnay ng mahahalagang serbisyo at bilihin. Santi Celario
