MANILA, Philippines – Tutulungan ng Department of Tourism (DOT) ang mga turistang apektado ng mga kanselasyon ng byahe dahil sa Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
Hanggang nitong Biyernes, Oktubre 25, iniulat na mayroong 529 turista ang istranded sa iba’t ibang rehiyon.
Ang mga istranded na turista ay mula sa Region 2 (Batanes), na may 179 turistang apektado; Region 4-A (Mauban, Quezon, at Lobo, Batangas), sa 16 turista; Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro at Marinduque), 33 turista; Region 6 (Boracay), 12 turista; Region 8 (Maasin), 25 turista; at Caraga (Surigao del Norte), sa 264 turista.
Sinabi ng DOT na biniberipika rin nito ang mga ulat tungkol sa mga istranded na turista sa northern Luzon at Bicol.
Nakapagtala naman ang ahensya ng 14 tourist sites na nasira sa pananalasa ng bagyo, kabilang ang sa Sorsogon, Masbate, Batangas at Dinagat Islands.
“We are closely coordinating with our regional offices, local government units and other government agencies to provide immediate assistance to stranded tourists,” pahayag ni Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco.
“The DOT stands ready to extend all necessary support during this time.”
Makikipag-ugnayan din ang ahensya sa pamamagitan ng mga regional office sa accommodation establishments para magbigay ng pansamantalang matutuluyan sa mga apektadong biyahero.
Nakikipag-ugnayan din ito sa local government units at iba pang ahensya, kabilang ang National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council upang masiguro ang agarang tulong sa mga turista.
Bukod sa mga lokal at dayuhang turista, tinitingnan din ng DOT ang paraan para tulungan ang mga tourism worker at establisyimento na nasapul ng bagyo.
“As we continue to assess the damage to tourist sites and businesses, the DOT is ready to mobilize resources to help our tourism frontliners as well as tourism establishments recover and rebuild in the aftermath of the storm,” ani Frasco. RNT/JGC
