MANILA, Philippines — Nagpahayag ng pangamba si Manila Electric Company (Meralco) Chairman at CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan sa kung sino ang sasalo sa malaking gastos kapag inalis ang system loss charges sa bayarin sa kuryente ng mga konsyumer.
“It’s a big bill for the industry because it cuts across generation, transmission, and distribution. The bill is too big for the industry to absorb all of it. So, there’s got to be that discussion. It’s going to impact the entire power industry in this country,” ani Pangilinan nitong Miyerkoles.
“It is not a small matter… So, who’s going to pay for that? The industry? It’s going to cost tens of billions of pesos. Will you not survive?” dagdag niya.
Sa kaniyang ikalimang State of the Nation Address, hinimok ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang Kongreso na amyendahan ang Electric Power Industry Reform Act upang itigil ang pagpasa sa mga konsyumer ng system loss charges at kaugnay nitong value-added tax.
Ang system loss ay tumutukoy sa kuryenteng nawawala o nananakaw dahil sa technical o non-technical factors. Iginiit ni Marcos na hindi dapat pagbayarin ang mga konsyumer sa kuryenteng hindi naman nila nagamit.
Ayon sa Department of Energy, maaaring magbigay ng pautang ang National Electrification Administration sa mga electric cooperative upang ma-upgrade ang kanilang mga pasilidad at mabawasan ang system losses. Dave Baluyot
