MANILA, Philippines – Mahigit isang milyong estudyante na naka-enroll sa state universities and colleges (SUCs) sa buong bansa ang makikinabang mula sa P27.3 billion budget increase sa ilalim ng 2024 national budget, sinabi ng Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC).
Batay sa 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), ang kabuuang bagong appropriations para sa SUCs ay nasa P128.2 billion, mas mataas sa P100.9 billion na hinihiling sa ilalim ng 2024 National Expenditure Program (NEP).
Ayon kay PASUC President Dr. Tirso Ronquillo, mayroong 1.85 milyong estudyante ang naka-enroll sa mga SUC sa buong bansa. MYroon ding 72,000 faculty at staff, at 50,000 job order employees at contract of service workers ang magbebenepisyo sa P27.3 billion budget increase.
Ani Ronquillo, ang alokasyon ay kinuha mula sa
“unprogrammed funds” na kakailanganin para sa pagbabayad ng free higher education deficiencies sa school years 2022 at 2023.
Makatutulong umano ito sa mga SUC na magkaroon ng “adequate resources to effectively perform its core mandates of instruction, research, community engagement and other public undertakings.” RNT/JGC
