MANILA, Philippines- Inihirit ng Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) kay Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III na tigilan ang paggamit sa pangalan ng partido.
Kasunod ito ng pagpapadala ng liham ni Pimentel kay Senate President Francis Escudero, sinabing tungkulin ng kapulungan na agad na aksyunan ang impeachment complaint na inihain laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Nakasulat ang “PDP-Laban” sa ilalim ng pangalan ni Pimentel sa liham.
“The PDP-Laban kindly requests the Honorable Senator to refrain from misusing the name PDP-Laban and misleading the Filipino people about his current party affiliation,” pahayag ng partido nitong Huwebes.
“The party is vehemently opposed to the impeachment of the Vice President and his use of the PDP-Laban name in an official letter to the Senate President makes it appear that the party has taken a different position,” dagdag nito.
Ang ama ni Duterte, si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, ang namumuno sa PDP-Laban.
Resulta ang partido ng merger ng PDP at Lakas ng Bayan. Ang PDP ay itinatag ng ama ni Pimentel na si dating Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr.
Binanggit ng PDP-Laban ang 2023 Commission on Elections ruling na nagdedeklara sa paksyon ni Duterte bilang opisyal na partido laban sa wing ni Pimentel.
Iginiit din ng PDP-Laban na si Pimentel ay tumatakbong Marikina 1st District representative sa ilalim ng Nacionalista Party. RNT/SA
