MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Philippine National Police (PNP) nitong Martes na makakatulong ito sa pag-secure ng 5-meter “zone of avoidance” sa paligid ng Bogo Bay Fault na nag-trigger ng magnitude 6.9 na lindol noong nakaraang linggo sa Cebu.
Kasunod ng mga bagong rekomendasyon mula sa Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), inatasan ang PNP na tumulong sa pagpapatupad ng safety buffer upang mabawasan ang panganib sakaling magkaroon ng ground-rupturing na lindol.
Sinabi ni acting PNP chief Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., na pinakilos ang mga local police unit upang makipagtulungan sa mga disaster officials at local government units (LGUs) sa rehiyon.
“I have directed our regional and local police units, particularly in Central Visayas, to immediately coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management councils and implement proactive safety measures,” saad ni Nartatez.
“Our police stations in Bogo City and neighboring areas have been tasked to assist in information dissemination, patrol vulnerable communities, and help local authorities enforce safety perimeters within the 5-meter zone of avoidance.”
Base sa report, ang tinatawag na “zone of avoidance” ay ang five-meter buffer zone sa magkabilang gilid ng Bogo Bay Fault trace na sinasabing hindi ligtas sa kahit anong permanenteng istraktura, dahil ang pag galaw ng lupa sa kasagsagan ng lindol ay magdudulot ng malubhang pinsala.
Pinayuhan ang mga lokal na pamahalaan na ipagbawal ang pagtatayo at tumulong sa paglilipat ng anumang mga tahanan o gusali na kasalukuyang nasa sa loob ng fault buffer.
Upang suportahan ang pagpapatupad ng rekomendasyong ito, ang PNP ay nagtalaga ng mga mobile patrol upang subaybayan ang lugar, maiwasan ang iligal na konstruksyon, at tumulong sa mga risk communication campaigns na naglalayong turuan ang mga residente.
“Our role is to provide security, maintain public order during any evacuation or clearing operations, and support the enforcement of the recommended safety buffer,” ayon kay Nartatez.
“Disasters may test our strength, but they also reveal our unity. The PNP will always be where duty calls, protecting every Filipino family and proving that true service means standing firm, especially when the ground beneath us shakes,” dagdag niya. RNT/MND
