MANILA, Philippines – KAPUWA nilagdaan ng Pilipinas at Vietnam, araw ng Lunes ang renewal ng 16-year-old memorandum of agreement on defense cooperation, na magpapalakas sa joint capabilities in maritime security ng dalawang bansa.
Ito ang inanusyo sa isinagawang press conference nina Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Vietnamese President Tô Lâm sa Palasyo ng Malakanyang sa gitna ng two-day state visit ng huli.
Kapuwa sinaksihan ng dalawang lider ang presentasyon ng ilang nilagdaang kasunduan sa President’s Hall, kasunod ng bilateral meeting.
Winika ng Pangulo na ang pakikipag-usap niya kay Tô Lâm ay sumasalamin sa kanilang ‘shared vision’ para sa “long-term prosperity, collective resilience, and an unyielding commitment to regional stability, which will undoubtedly propel our bilateral relations to even greater heights.”
“On political and security cooperation, we have just witnessed the signing of a pivotal agreement—the renewal of the 2010 Philippines–Vietnam Memorandum of Agreement on Defense Cooperation,” ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos.
“This strategically important framework will significantly bolster our joint capabilities in maritime security, military education, and disaster risk reduction and management,” aniya pa rin.
Bilang kapuwa claimant states sa South China Sea, tinuran ni Pangulong Marcos na muling pinagtibay ng Pilipinas at Vietnam ang pagpapanatili ng kapayapaan, katatagan at freedom of navigation at ang overflight sa maritime area ay nananatiling non-negotiable.
“We stand resolute in our commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes, grounded firmly in international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award,” anito. KRIS JOSE
