MANILA, Philippines – Hindi dumalo si dating House Speaker Martin Romualdez kasama ang iba pang mambabatas na inimbitahan ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee sa pagpapatuloy ng pagsisiyasat sa flood control anomalies nitong Biyernes (Nob. 14, 2025), na binanggit ang patuloy na pagsisiyasat ng Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
Si Romualdez at 13 iba pang incumbent lawmakers kabilang sina Eric Yap, Arjo Atayde, Roman Romulo, Marcy Teodoro ay kabilang sa mga inimbitahan ng panel bilang mga resource person sa ika-7 pagdinig nito sa isyu ngayong Biyernes.
Ang mga mambabatas ay binanggit ng mga naunang saksi na umano’y tumatanggap ng mga kickback mula sa mga flood control projects. Itinanggi nilang lahat ang akusasyon.
“According to House Speaker [Bojie] Dy, the [incumbent] members [of the House] will not be appearing before the committee today in order to avoid any possible prejudice to the ongoing investigation and eventual findings of the ICI,” ayon kay panel chairperson Sen. Ping Lacson.
Ibinahagi din ng opisina ni Lacson ang naging liham ni House Speaker Dy. Sa sulat, sinabi ni Dy:
“The concerned Members of the House have already formally submitted themselves to the jurisdiction and ongoing investigation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI)… As such, it is in the interest of the Filipino people that these House Members first fulfill their duty to cooperate with the independent investigative body directly tasked by the Executive with this matter. Subjecting them to a simultaneous legislative inquiry on the identical subject could potentially prejudice the findings of the ICI.”
No-show din ang dating mambabatas na si Zaldy Co, isa pa umanong major player sa diumano’y kickback scheme. Sinabi ng kanyang abogado na nasa ibang bansa pa rin si Co dahil sa “medical reasons,” ani Lacson.
Nahinto ang imbestigasyon ng Blue Ribbon noong nakaraang buwan sa gitna ng pagbibitiw ni Lacson bilang chairman nito dahil sa umano’y “disappointment” ng kanyang mga kasamahan. Muli siyang nahalal bilang panel chair sa unang bahagi ng linggong ito. RNT/MND
