MANILA, Philippines- Hiniling ng kampo ni dating Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. sa mga korte na dumidinig sa kanyang mga kaso na payagan siyang patuloy na ipiit sa detention facility ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) sa New Bilibid Prison.
Sa limang pahinang urgent motion, nakiusap si Teves sa mga korte na maditene sa ilalim ng kustodiya ng NBI sa Building 14.
Nababala kasi ang kampo ni Teves sa kaligtasan ng dating mambabatas dahil sa posibilidad na gantihan umano siya ng mga kaanak o mga kakilala ni dating Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo kung saan siya ang itinuturong mastermind sa pagpaslang.
“While accused maintains his innocence for the said crimes, it is not far-fetched that the relatives and/or sympathizers of these many victims, who for some reasons may be already convinced of his guilt even before trial, are out there to seek vengeance, albeit misplaced, and are ready to take the law into their hands to harm him,” nakasaad sa mosyon.
Ipinunto rin ng kampo ni Teves ang Certificate of Handover na nilagdaan ng pamahalaan ng Timor-Leste at Pilipinas bago siya idineport.
Nakasaad sa certificate na ipipiit si Teves sa pasilidad na “internationally compliant.”
“An inspection by the legal counsels of accused herein reveals that Building 14 is indeed a secure facility that is compliant with the internationally-accepted requisites of a detention facility, especially when it comes to the safety and security of the accused,” dagdag sa kanilang mosyon.
Hindi rin anila siksikan ang naturang pasilidad at ang populasyon nito ay sapat naman ang bilang.
Magugunita na iniutos ng Manila RTC na ilipat na si Teves sa Manil City Jail mula sa NBI detention facility. Gayunman, pinigil ni NBI Director Jaime Santiago ang paglilipat dahil may iba pang korte ang magdedesisyon kung saan siya ililipat. Teresa Tavares
