MANILA, Philippines – Itinurn-over ng mga lokal na opisyal at sibilyan sa Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur, ang nasa 16 high-powered firearms sa mga militar nitong Martes, Pebrero 11, 2025 na nagmamarka sa kampanya laban sa loose firearms.
Ayon kay Lt. Col. Christian Cabading, commander ng 92nd Infantry Battalion ng Philippine Army, ang mga armas ay itinurn-over sa Barangay Salbu bilang bahagi ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) program.
“I commend the local officials of Datu Saudi Ampatuan and the gun owners for supporting our campaign. This effort is for the betterment of your communities,” saad sa pahayag ni Cabading.
Kabilang sa mga isinukong armas ay ang dalawang .50-caliber sniper rifles, 7.62mm sniper rifle, 5.56mm Ultimax rifle, 12-gauge shotgun, dalawang M79 grenade launchers, isang M16 rifle, dalawang 9mm submachine guns, 9mm pistol, Uzi machine pistol, dalawang hand grenades, at dalawang rocket-propelled grenades.
Ani Brig. Gen. Donald Gumiran, commander ng 6th Infantry Division (6ID), layon ng SALW program na bawasan ang gun violence at masiguro ang mapayapang eleksyon sa Mayo.
“We are glad residents and local officials support the program, which helps secure communities from the culture of violence,” sinabi ni Gumiran sa hiwalay na pahayag.
Mula noong Enero 1, mahigit 400 unlicensed firearms ang isinuko sa area of operation ng 6ID sa Central Mindanao. RNT/JGC
