MANILA, Philippines – Makatitipid ang gobyerno ng P25.6 billion para sa buong taon kasunod ng implementasyon ng 20-percent reduction sa non-essential government spending.
Sinabi ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) na ang hakbang ay bahagi ng pagsisikap ng gobyerno na lumikha ng karagdagang fiscal space para pagaanin ang epekto ng tumataas na geopolitical tensions sa Gitnang Silangan, na patuloy na nakaaapekto sa global energy supply at presyo.
Ayon sa DBM, magpapatupad ito ng mahigpit at episyenteng hakbang sa iba’t ibang national government agencies sa pamamagitan ng pagbabawas sa non-essential Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE).
“These include limiting official travel to essential activities, maximizing virtual engagements, strengthening energy conservation efforts, and streamlining operational expenditures,” ayon sa departamento.
“These measures are expected to generate savings ranging from P12.8 billion to P25.6 billion from March to December 2026, depending on the level of compliance across agencies,” ang sinabi pa rin nito.
Winika ni DBM Acting Secretary Rolando Toledo, ang mahalaga at frontline services, kabilang na ang edukasyon, kalusugan at social protection, ay exempted mula sa mandatory 20 percent cut sa paggastos.
Ani Toledo, nananatiling naka-pokus ang suporta ng gobyerno, pagtiyak na ang limitadong resources ay makaaabot sa mas nangangailangan, nang hindi iko-kompromiso ang fiscal stability.
“The instruction of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. is to protect the Filipino people first. Even as we tighten spending, we will ensure that critical services remain uninterrupted and that assistance reaches those who need it most,” ayon kay Toledo.
Naglaan ang gobyerno ng P238 billion para tugunan ang epekto ng krisis sa Gitnang Silangan sa mgha apektado at vulnerable sectors.
“The funding pool — sourced from the 2026 General Appropriations Act, continuing appropriations, and automatic appropriations—will support key interventions, including fuel subsidies for the transport sector, assistance to farmers and fisherfolk, healthcare support, and other targeted social protection programs,” ayon sa DBM.
Tinuran pa rin ni Toledo na ang paunang hakbang na isinasagawa na ng gobyerno ay ang P2.5 billion na fuel subsidies para sa transport operators at karagdagang P1 billion para sa service contracting. (KRIS JOSE)
