MANILA, Philippines – Pinaigting ng Office of the Ombudsman ang imbestigasyon sa mga umano’y iregularidad sa mga flood control project ngayong 2026.
Ayon kay Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, may 209 reklamo na kasalukuyang nasa fact-finding investigation at apat na kaso na ang naisampa sa korte.
Sinabi ni Remulla na ang usapin ng mga flood control project ay isa sa pinakamalalaking hamon sa mabuting pamamahala sa bansa.
“Today, our Office stands at the forefront of addressing one of the most significant governance challenges confronting our country — the investigation of flood control infrastructure projects involving serious concerns on public accountability, transparency, and the protection of public resources,” aniya.
Noong 2025, may 124 reklamo ang isinailalim sa fact-finding investigation at 36 ang umusad sa preliminary investigation o administrative adjudication.
“In 2026, these efforts intensified with 209 complaints undergoing fact-finding investigation, several cases advancing to formal proceedings, and finally, 4 cases filed before the courts,” dagdag niya.
Binigyang-diin din ni Remulla na mahalaga ang mga imbestigasyong ito upang mapalakas ang tiwala ng publiko sa mga institusyong nagpapatupad ng pananagutan sa gobyerno.
“But beyond these numbers is a deeper responsibility — to strengthen public trust and demonstrate that accountability institutions can respond with independence, fairness, professionalism, and resolve,” aniya.
Kasabay nito, hinikayat niya ang mas malawak na kooperasyon ng mga accountability institutions sa Timog-Silangang Asya upang mas epektibong matugunan ang mga isyu sa pamamahala at katiwalian.
Dumalo si Remulla sa pamamagitan ng recorded video message sa pagpupulong ng Southeast Asian Ombudsman Forum sa Maynila, kung saan tinalakay ang mga usapin sa good governance, accountability, at regional cooperation. RNT/MND
