BASILAN, Philippines – Dalawampu’t dalawang pulis ang inilagay sa restrictive custody dahil sa umano’y hazing sa mahigit 100 police recruits sa Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Mobile Force Battalion B (PRO BAR MFB 14B) sa Barangay Ubit, Lamitan City, Basilan, ayon sa PNP.
Inalis sa kanilang posisyon ang buong RMFB 14B, na may mahigit 70 personnel, matapos ang reklamo na pinilit ang mga recruits na “duck-walk, lie and roll on the ground” at “physically assaulted” gamit ang wooden sticks.
Ayon kay PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, “Twenty-two of the RMFB 14B personnel are under restrictive custody out of the 70 personnel. The 22 were identified by the testimonies and affidavits we received.”
Sa 22 na ito, walo ang opisyal at 14 ang police non-commissioned officers, kung saan ang pinakamataas na ranggo ay isang police colonel. Ayon kay Tuaño, 12 sa kanila ay nahaharap na sa kaso ng paglabag sa Republic Act No. 11053.
Nangyari umano ang hazing noong Huwebes ng hapon matapos makumpleto ng mga recruits ang kanilang training course. Umabot sa 129 ang naghain ng reklamo, at sa 56 lamang nakatanggap ng medical certification ng hematoma o contusion, ngunit wala namang kritikal na kondisyon at lahat ay na-discharge na.
Sa pahayag naman ni PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., “The Philippine National Police has its own share of sad and unpleasant stories of hazing activities… The PNP condemns hazing and we will never tolerate it in our organization. This should serve as a warning to other police offices and units not to engage in this kind of activity.” RNT/MND
