MANILA, Philippines- Nananatiling committed ang Pilipinas sa ‘rule of law’ at ‘peaceful settlement’ sa alitan sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
“Over the years, the Philippines has continued to demonstrate this commitment to peace even in the face of the ‘unlawful actions’ which have caused serious incidents in the South China Sea, without ever diminishing our resolve to protect and promote our people’s interest and the full and responsible enjoyment of our legally settled maritime entitlements and its accompanying rights and jurisdictions,” ayon sa kalatas ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) habang ngayon anito ay ika-walong taong anibersaryo ng tagumpay ng Pilipinas sa Arbitral Award sa The Hague laban sa China.
Ang award, ayon sa departamento, ay muling pagpapatibay sa United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea at pinoprotektahan ang karapatan ng Pilipinas bilang ‘coastal state at isang seafaring people.’
Kinilala naman ng departamento ang suporta ng international community sa pamamagitan ng pagpapatibay na ang award ay isang ‘positive and legitimate source’ ng international law.
Kabilang dito ang Group of Seven (G7)—kinabibilangan ng Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, at Estados Unidos at maging ang International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS).
“Every effort to secure our legitimate interests in our maritime domain is a testament to the determination and courage of the Filipino people, while showcasing the Philippines’ vision of peace and stability that inspires and resonates beyond the waters of the South China Sea,” ayon sa DFA.
“With our national interest and sovereign rights in mind, the Philippines will move forward to chart a course anchored on peace, security and prosperity in our region,” dagdag na pahayag nito. Kris Jose
