MANILA, Philippines- Iginiit ng Philippine Army nitong Huwebes na ang paggunita ng Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) sa ika-56 anibersaryo nito noong Huwebes ay “generally peaceful on the ground.”
“We have not recorded any incidents,” pahayag ni Army spokesperson Colonel Louie Dema-ala, subalit idinagdag na: “But all our troops remain on the alert and the internal security operations are continuous to ensure peaceful communities.”
Nauna nang ipinag-utos ng CPP leadership ang armed wing nitong New People’s Army (NPA), “to take the initiative to mount tactical offensives, selecting targets that it can defeat” upang markahan ang 56th anniversary nito noong Huwebes, Disyembre 26.
“We are determined to frustrate the enemy’s all-out war, recover from our losses, gain new victories and advance the Filipino people’s revolutionary resistance,” anang central committee ng CPP nitong Huwebes.
Base sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), bumaba na ang bilang ng NPA fighter sa halos 1,500 hanggang nitong December 2023. Pumalo ang bilang ng mga miyembro nito sa peak na 25,000 noong 1987, dagdag ng AFP..
Itinatag ni Jose Maria Sison ang CPP noong December 26, 1968, habang binuo ang NPA noong March 29, 1969. Ang CPP-NPA ang nagsusulong ng “longest-running Maoist insurgency” sa buong mundo.
Noong December 2022, pumanaw si Sison sa edad na 83 taong gulang habang nasa The Netherlands.
Kasalukuyang nagsasagawa ang political wing ng CPP na National Democratic Front of the Philippines ng diskusyon sa government representatives upang maibalik ang peace talks. RNT/SA
