MANILA, Philippines – Nanindigan ang defense team ni Vice President Sara Duterte nitong Lunes, Hunyo 9, na handa nilang harapin ang mga reklamo sa oras na magpatuloy na ang impeachment trial.
Sa kabila nito ay iginiit ng kampo ni Duterte na ang proseso ay hindi dapat gamitin para mang-harass ng mga kalaban sa politika.
“We deem it proper to refrain from commenting on matters that are exclusive and internal to the Senate. However, we reiterate our firm position that the initiation of the impeachment process—particularly the Fourth Impeachment Complaint—suffers from serious constitutional infirmities,” saad sa pahayag ng defense team ni Duterte.
“It is a constitutional mechanism, not a political tool,” dagdag pa.
Sa oras na magdesisyon umano ang Senado na magpatuloy na sa impeachment proceedings, sinabi ng mga abogado ng Bise Presidente na handa nilang harapin ang reklamo at “expose the baselessness of the accusations” laban sa kanya.
Matatandaan na inimpeach ng Kamara si Duterte noong Pebrero 5, sa mahigit 200 mambabatas ang nag-endorso ng reklamo.
Sa kaparehong araw, ipinasa ang Articles of Impeachment sa Senado ngunit nag-adjourn nang hindi pa tinutugunan ang kaso.
Si Duterte ay inakusahan ng betrayal of public trust, culpable violation ng Konstitusyon, graft and corruption, at iba pang krimen. RNT/JGC
