MANILA, Philippines – Ginawaran ng access ang Pilipinas para bisitahin ang tatlong Pinoy na inaresto sa China dahil sa hinihinalang pang-eespiya, sinabi ni Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro nitong Lunes, Hulyo 14.
Sa media engagement sa Pasay City, sinabi ni Lazaro na itinuturing ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ang naturang kaso bilang isang “consular issue” at magbibigay ang gobyerno ng buong suporta sa tatlong indibidwal.
“The Chinese government has notified us, and this is under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Consulate in Guangzhou, and the access to the three persons has been granted,” ani Lazaro.
Siniguro rin ng opisyal sa pamilya ng mga ito na handang makipag-ugnayan ang pamahalaan sa law firm para hawakan ang kaso.
“This is what we have done so far towards the protection of these three Filipinos in China,” aniya.
Ang tatlong inarestong Pinoy ay mga dating recipient ng Hainan Government Scholarship Program na itinatag sa ilalim ng sisterhood agreement sa pagitan ng Hainan at Palawan.
Naunang sinabi ng National Security Council na ang tatlo ay pawang mga “ordinary Filipino citizens with no military training” at “law-abiding citizens with no criminal records and were vetted and screened by the Chinese government before their arrival there.” RNT/JGC
